Sheehy California's structural budget deficit was not solved in last budget enacted in June 2011. The state faces 2012-13 gap between revenues and expenditures of $10 to $14 billion depending on how various legal challenges are decided by the courts and how much, if any shows up, of the $4 billion in revenue spike that Gov. Jerry Brown and Democratic lawmakers used to close the budget in June when they were unsuccessful in getting Republican votes for tax extensions / increases. Many more difficult decisions are on the horizon to get the state's fiscal house in order.
